******Background knowledge of Zuni
The Zuni are a tribe of Native Americans that have traditionally lived in the Southwestern part of the United States. They build homes in pueblos, and many current members of the tribe live in Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. They are a matrilineal culture and have historically been farmers who grow maize and wheat. They are known for their jewelry making and art. The Zuni language is absolutely unique and has no ties with any other Native American languages. The Zuni religion is centered on Kachinas, spirit beings that represent aspects of nature. The Kachinas appear in three different forms in Zuni culture - as depicted as dolls or art, as represented by dancers wearing masks who perform in traditional ceremonial dances, and in their nature spirit form.
